Lasik for life?
You mean this isn’t a one-shot deal?
We have some people get a little freaked out at their initial consultation when we tell them that we are offering LASIK for Life. It takes some people quite a while to get comfortable with the idea of any procedure on their eyes, so when they finally come to see us about LASIK they think that it is a one-trip event and that they will spend 10 minutes in our surgery room and they will never have to come back.
The truth is that we are pleased to announce that we will be seeing you a few more times. It’s great for us, because we love our patients. It’s a little unsettling if you thought that one visit would be sufficient for superior vision. But, just as that first visit wasn’t as bad as you thought it might be, we can assure you that your follow-up visits will be great as well. And, there is some important stuff going on when you come back to see us!
Our feelings about the way we look at our patients never change. The way our patients’ eyes grow over time does. That’s why we need to see you along the way. The shape of our eyes can change over time, and although most people they don’t need a follow-up surgery, some people do need one, maybe even two additional surgeries to keep that vision where we need it to be.
When we get a little older, around 40 or so, our eyes start to experience some side effects of aging. Even with perfect vision, you will start to suffer reduced vision close up or while reading. Over the course of our lives, there is a progression of nearsightedness and farsightedness. With that said, if you have had unstable vision throughout your life, it is possible that you might need additional surgeries in the future because your eyes are likely to change some over time.
It’s important to note that the percentage of people who need follow-up surgery in the first year is about 1 or 2 percent, and then the likelihood that you’ll need additional surgery goes up by about 1 percent a year after that. Odds are still very good that you won’t need additional treatment, but we have to check your eyes to make sure!
At LASIK Vision Centers of Cleveland, we offer our LASIK for Life program which ensures that as long as you follow our guidelines including regular check-ups with your affiliate doctor, you are covered for any additional surgery going forward. Should you be one of those rare people that needs a “tune-up” down the road, your follow-up procedures are covered with LVC of Cleveland. So, it looks like you’ll be a patient for life, and we wouldn’t want it any other way!
